Backscatter
A powerful station too close to you for Es may be getting out elsewhere on Es; if the signal comes down on an ocean, a tiny portion of it may scatter back along the same path, but come down the second time in your location. There's a lot of distortion, especially if the backscatter signal interferes with direct groundwave or tropo reception.
